Track Threshold Test

Happy Wednesday!

Dave is out of town, so I (Chris) am filling in. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up regarding the AT test. Amanda will NOT be at the track tonight, however if you would like to take the test on your own or with a friend, show up at SMHS (San Marcos High School) at 6:15. The AT test is below - don't forget to bring it with you.

Start Test

The test is 2x2 miles. For the first 2 mile set, do the 1st mile at your perceived half marathon pace. The 2nd mile of that set should be at somewhere between perceived 5k-10k pace. Collect your time for each mile and your HR at the end of each mile.

Rest for 3 minutes, then start the second 2 mile set. The 1st mile of this set at perceived 5k pace and the 2nd mile of the set is all out. Collect your time and your HR at the end of each mile.

Your HR should climb throughout the test. For this test, the threshold is the average between the HR at the end of the second mile on the 1st set and first mile of the last set. Those HRs should be fairly close.

End Test

A bit of a mouthful…it will show each persons anaerobic threshold…and as they train and develop, the threshold should get higher. It's going to be a great baseline test.

Official track workouts will begin next next Tuesday, March 17th 6:15pm at SMHS.

Chris "Not The Pres" Latham
